So that you have an understanding on how to find a suitable niche to sell in I have provide some ideas below to assist you with this.
Getting Started:
— Your Passions
You will see this in every niche eBook and article. The main reason that the experts emphasise this is because if you find something to sell that you are passionate about you will do anything it takes to make it successful.
Also what I like about selling something that you’re passionate about is “If you do something you love, you will never work a day in your life”.
Ask yourself questions similar to the following:
-
What is it that you don’t mind doing?
-
What is it that you just love to talk about?
-
If there is something that you will do for people and you don’t mind doing it for free even though other people would charge.
-
What do you do when your not working?
Write these things down on a piece of paper and analyse them!
– Your Hobbies
If you just can’t seem to find something that you’re totally passionate about then what do you do?
Sports:
- Golf
- Football
- Tennis
Sewing, cooking, dancing, restoring antique clocks etc
— Your Skills
- What are you good at? What do you do well?
- What is it that you can do that others can’t?
- What is it that you can do on auto pilot and don’t have to think about?
- What is it that people keep asking you to do for them or help them with?
– What makes you smart?
I strongly believe that no one person is smarter than any other person because no one can know everything there is to know in the world. That’s a bit broad I know.
I grew up playing basketball, tennis, cricket, Australian Rules Football etc. I studied in Information technology so these are the things that I know about. But if you get me under the bonnet of a car to try a fix the engine that wont start I will run the other way, as I have not learnt or been taught how to make the car start.
— Your Frustrations
What is it that just really ticks you off? What is it that you think there could be a much better way to do?
– Your smart friends
Anyone that you think is good at something, interview them and get out all their ideas, techniques, and solutions etc. and take them down or go into business with them.
— Website Forums
Go into any Internet forum and see what questions people are asking. If you find a topic you like find a few different Internet forums and see what questions people are asking.
– Check Google then check ebay
If you find a topic do a quick search for it on Google and just have a look at the amount of results you get. Then go to ebay and search on that same item and see if there is any difference. If you see plenty of results on Google and not so many on ebay you know that you have a market.
– Google Trends
You can go to Google trends at www.google.com/trends and do a search on any topic and it will give you the results from 2004 – 2007 showing you if the niche is growing or shrinking at the moment.
Below I have listed some websites that can assist you with discovering what is hot on the Internet. If you spend some time going through these sites you will find it helpful for some great brainstorming concepts and you will find many hot niche ideas.
